Raising, keeping and withdrawing a bid

A bid can go up three times on each car and its pickup time can move earlier. It lasts a week, can be kept for another week, and can be withdrawn.

Everything you can do with a bid is in the bid box on the car’s page. If your card is not on file, the box asks you to add one instead, and the only thing left in it is Withdraw my bid, if you already have a bid.

Raising

Press +$25, +$50 or +$100, or type a new amount, then press Raise my bid. A raise has to be at least $25 more than the bid you have, because while a bid stands it can go up but never down. You can raise your bid three times on each car, and the box shows how many raises you have left, so it pays to make your first bid a real one. Keeping the same amount and moving your pickup earlier are not raises. Once you have used all three, your bid stays where it is, and you can still keep it or move your pickup earlier. If the car is put back up after its listing ends, you get three raises again. The seller sees the new amount straight away. If it puts you on top and the seller agreed to texts, we text them about it, though not more than once every two hours. At night, from 9 PM to 8 AM where the car is, that text waits until after 8 AM and then names the top bid at that time, if the car is still for sale. A raise also starts your bid’s week again.

Moving your pickup earlier

Under Earliest you can pick it up, which lists your open pickup times, choose an earlier time and press the Move my pickup button. If you are raising at the same time, Raise my bid sends both. While your bid stands, its pickup time can move earlier but you can’t move it later, because the time is part of what put you in Speed Run. The times on the list are on the clock where the car is. If your pickup time is almost over, with less than an hour of it left, and the seller has not picked a bid, we move your bid to your first open time after the notice you gave, from then. The seller can book your time or a later time you have open, never an earlier one.

Keeping your bid

Each bid stays on the seller’s board for a week after you place, raise or keep it, unless the listing closes first. In its last two days, the car’s page shows a Keep my bid button, which sends the same amount again and gives it another week, though never past the end of the listing. We also send you an alert a day before a bid runs out, unless the listing is closing by then anyway.

Withdrawing

Withdraw my bid, at the bottom of the box, takes your bid off the seller’s board. You can only withdraw while the car is still taking bids, not after the seller has picked one. If you change your mind, you can place a new bid on the car with any pickup time on the list. Coming back at the same amount doesn’t use a raise. Coming back at a different amount, higher or lower, uses one of your three, so with none left you can only come back at the same amount. A higher one has to be at least $25 more than your last bid.
